Siberian series

Aurora Borealis
over the poor village
the splendor of lights

Polar night --
thick vapor encircles
children's laughter

New Year's cold --
again my son brings home
a stray kitten

Siberian frost --
vapor from thawed out soil
under the bitch's belly

Polar night --
sparkle of precious stones
in a tundra sky

------------------------------------------

Venetian Triptych

Venetian carnival --
masks and pigeons
among the garbage

sinking city...
the winged lion soars
over the pier

crumbling walls
fall into the canal
geranium petals

------------------------------------------

Darkening Garden - Trilogy

darkening garden --
sunset picks all colors
from the flowers

flickering air --
first polka-dots of rain
on the road

fireflies
piercing the air
frog's choir

------------------------------------------

End of Summer - Trilogy

cool breeze...
in the dandelion's hairdo
only fluff

end of summer
sending out a tiny leaf
the old stump

in the river
summer and I swim away
the whole hour

------------------------------------------

Starry Haiku series

mid-summer heat --
a highway climbing toward
the brightest star

short starry night
his cheek glowing warmly
against my lips

extinguished world
of the shooting star --
I make a wish ...

shooting stars
falling on a bed
of asters

fireflies in dusk...
the tracery in sky
doubles

------------------------------------------

Summer Reminiscence...
Haiku sequence

summer night --
house-cricket echoing
its outside cousins

parched flowerbed
bluejay's rasping voice squeezes
through the thistle

topless in the garden --
peeking over the fence
neighbor's sunflower

garden breeze...
sunflower nods in rhythm
with the wind chime

------------------------------------------

Whimsical Haiku

morning excercise --
he stretches three more hairs
the right direction

trembling web
the evening air drips
with mosquitoes

spring roof --
cats' community band
sawing the night in two

scrap-heap --
dining gracefully
a stray cat

owl's hoot --
drifting thoughts stumble
in the dusk

on a big boulder
a chipmunk chattering --
sunrise

September first
line of loaded ants
on the school drive
